Comedy Shows—Any Night Of The Week

Comedy Shows—Any Night Of The Week

Did you know that comedians like Ali Wong, Margaret Cho, Greg Proops, and Robin Williams all got their start in the Bay Area? That's right! Though it may not seem like it to the untrained eye, our fair city has a rich comedy history—and this date is for those of you who want to laugh out loud—and possibly meet the local comics who'll become the next big thing. We're breaking down some of our favorite comedy events by day of the week, so you can chortle any any time you'd like.

Check Out Great Comedy All Week Long

When it comes to comedy shows in the SF, here are a few things to know:

First, there are two large comedy clubs in the city: Cobb's and The Punch Line. These are where you'll see most of the big-name comedians as they breeze through town. Both have a 2 drink minimum and you can order a variety of snacks that the friendly wait staff can bring you during the show.

Second, there are tons—and we mean tons—of smaller, underground shows that will knock your socks off in SF and Oakland. For this article, we'll focus on a select few we love. Let's get started!

Where To Go On Mondays

1. Comedy x Pop Up Food: Laugh at some jokers in an intimate setting at this show at the Starline in Oakland, hosted by Irene Tu and Andrew Orolfo. This is a stand-up showcase that typically features about a half a dozen comics (and sometimes boasts a noteworthy surprise guest!). Get there early for dinner—there’s a rotating selection of pop-up vendors selling food before every show.

  • When: Mondays from 8-10pm

  • Where: Starline Social Club

  • Neighborhood: Uptown, Oakland.

  • Cost: Free

  • Need to know: Check Eventbrite for weekly lineup details.

Where To Go On Tuesdays

1. Tuesday Comedy Night w/ Laugh City: Not just a place to dance your ass off, The Layover also hosts comedy nights produced by Laugh City. Now in its 7th year, this comedy night is a place to see some of the more polished acts in the Bay. In fact, every Last Tuesday of the month they have a nationally touring headliner.

Where To Go On Wednesdays

1. Cobb's Free Comedy Nights: Every last Wednesday & Thursday of the month, Cobb's offers a comedy showcase.
